Guess Who’s Not Rushdie-ing to the Booker Prize This Year?

TheDailyHustle

The title gave it away, didn’t it? Nevertheless, the literary world is atwitter with the news that when the Man Booker Prize finalists were announced in London on Tuesday, Salman Rushdie’s “The Enchantress of Florence” was not one of them. But Rushie practically owns the Booker Prize, doesn’t he? Guess not anymore. Who DID make the literary shortlist? According to the New York Times, the glittering literary stars on the short list include “The White Tiger” by Aravind Adiga, a first-time novelist.

Also getting major kudos for his first book is finalist Australian novelist Steve Toltz, whose debut novel, “A Fraction of the Whole,” tells the story of “a son whose attempt to understand his dead father takes him from Paris cafes to the Thai jungle to the Australian bush.” Kudos to the 36-year-old finalist and to all the other finalists. Okay, okay Salman. You can stop weeping and gnashing your teeth now. There’s always next year…right?
