GalleyCat reports that especially in these trying financial times, publishers are being savvy about ways to make a buck. Hence the appearance of two financial-themed tomes about to make a splash in both the book and stock markets.

Ready to be jealous? Zac Bissonette, the author of the first book, managed to not only spark a three-way bidding war over his debut non-fiction book, but he’s also a sophomore in college. The second book is called “A Year of Living Within Our Means” by Hodding Carter. According to Publishers Weekly, “[H]e and his family of six will mine cost-saving techniques from the Great Depression and the first cookbook in America, and stay within their budget, whether that means growing their own food or bartering for things they need.” What may be a novelty lifestyle may just strike a chord with over-spent families who might discover that growing their own food and returning to a simpler (and cheaper) way of life might just be the new trend for 2009.
