Wall Street Tightens Belt as Food-Lovers Loosen Theirs

TheDailyHustle

Stock portfolio got you down? Bad news splashed across the cover of every newspaper and magazine? Well, come to the land where “liquidation” doesn’t mean financial ruin, but a delicious way to make a smoothie. Come to Food Publication Land.

Okay, so maybe there’s not an actual place called Food Publication Land, but in the coming year readers are going to see a huge increase in the ever-growing world of cooking and dining publications. According to the Wall Street Journal, the culinary market has been on the upswing for the past few years but is on the cusp of an even bigger boom. And this tasty little treat translates to more delicious food magazines for you to read (and write!). The Food Network is getting its own magazine, as is Sandra Lee with her forthcoming “Semi-Homemade” publication.

Meat: Don’t Just Eat It, Read It!

Listen up pork chop lovers: there’s a new magazine in town…and it’s well done. Meatpaper, “a print magazine of art and ideas about meat” has launched and it’s taking both the carnivorous and the vegans by storm with its witty write-ups and interesting articles. As the magazine itself says, “We like metaphors more than marinating tips. We are your journal of meat culture.” Even as a vegetarian, I was still entertained with the cavalcade of provocative pieces this magazine dished up.

Featuring articles such as “On the Range: Braised moose nose, roasted cicadas, and other traditional Native American treats” and “Sweat Sock: The Other White Meat. What grill marks and a little garnish can do.”

Meat. It’s what’s for dinner…and after-dinner reading.
