The game is called HeadsRush and I have to say: the artwork in the game is absolutely stunning. According the game’s art director, Nate Ratcliffe, the surrealist style of HeadsRush was heavily inspired by the work of Los Angeles artist Mark Ryden. According to Ratcliffe, “Ryden’s style has a twisted, yet polished look that at first glance seems unconventional in games but is perfectly suited for a world that is both twisted and comical, beautiful yet repugnant all at the same time.”

So far, the response to the game has been tremendous, propelling HeadsRush to the top of NewGrounds.com on its opening day. According to the designers of HeadsRush, the gameplay was inspired by the 1978 Oscar-winning film DEER HUNTER. “The idea was to take a gambling game that everyone can play and twist the rules,” says Ratcliffe. “So instead of just pulling the trigger, you can turn the gun on your opponent, much like DeNiro does in THE DEER HUNTER.”

It’s just like being in Vietnam… Only WAY prettier.
